What is the RP Cross-Cause DAF?

Unlike a pooled fund, where your contribution is merged with others, the individual DAF gives you your own account within RP’s Cross-Cause DAF Program. You can monitor your balance, invest your charitable funds, track every grant, and adjust your allocation over time, all while benefiting from Rethink Priorities’ cause prioritization research.

Charityvest, a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, serves as the legal sponsor of the DAF account. Rethink Priorities has partnered with Charityvest to offer a modern, tech-forward giving experience. Charityvest serves as the legal DAF sponsor. Contributions to the Rethink Priorities Cross-Cause DAF are irrevocable, tax-deductible gifts to Charityvest, a 501(c)(3) public charity. EIN 81-2771871.

How it works

Open a personal DAF account
with the RP Cross-Cause DAF

Standard DAF features apply: add funds, check your balance, invest, and track grants. Periodically, RP will recommend grants we believe maximizes impact. You can accept, modify, or veto our recommendations—or submit your own preferred split via memo. You retain full discretion to submit grant requests to any eligible US 501(c)(3) public charity at any time.

How to contribute

Complete our donation intent form.
This generates a memo and notifies us to expect your contribution.

Create a personal DAF account within the RP Cross-Cause DAF, hosted by Charityvest.

Request an invitation to join by sending a quick email to fund@rethinkpriorities.org with “Invite to DAF” in the subject line.

You’ll receive an email to complete the sign-up. It takes one minute!

Once set up, add funds to your account via DAF transfer, bank transfer, credit card, or other assets. See this guide for all available gifting options.

If sending funds via another DAF, log into your other DAF account and make a grant to Charityvest, EIN: 81-2771871. Make sure to include the email you used to sign up in the memo field, so they can allocate your funds to your personal DAF

RP will periodically recommend grants from your account. You will receive an email notification from Charityvest and can cancel any recommended grant before it disburses.

You can view your balance, adjust your preferences,
and see where your money has gone at any time.

Rethink Priorities does not charge any fees for managing your DAF. Charityvest assesses administrative fees on invested assets only. See guide.charityvest.org/for-donors/fees-and-expenses for more information.

    By default, Charityvest will share your details with Rethink Priorities, and post everything donated through Daffy as anonymous to the public, unless otherwise specified in the memo; if you specify that you want your name to be published online, your name will be visible on the Charityvest Fund Supporters page

Anonymity

Participation in RP’s DAF program is anonymous to the public and to other DAF participants. Rethink Priorities and Charityvest, the DAF legal sponsor, will see your account details.
